This year has been a strange year for me. Some days super hot with gobbling and the next day completely shut down. First bird I got on May 8th was one of those hot gobbling days. My brother and I set up on these birds on the roost and quickly got into action as they were literally gobbling at everything. Calling, crows, geese, woodpeckers, you name it they would gobble to it. They worked down the ridge to us, as they crested the ridge I could only see the fan on one. Then the second one popped up 10 yards to his left. As he came out of strut he periscoped up looking down the ridge side. Not seeing his lady he started to get nervous so I took the shot. Rest is history! Unfortunately the other bird spooked a bit too much for my brother to get a shot at the second one. The second bird was quite different. I set up on a field knowing some birds have been frequently hitting. First light not, a peep for as far as I could hear. But after about an hour here they come. A hen followed by a few jakes and a long beard in tow. Paying no attention to the decoy they head the other direction. After they got out of site I quickly came up with a plan to get ahead of them. I got down in a deep ravine and start climbing up the other side. About halfway up I hear the hen yelping. I drop the vest and belly crawl the last 75 yards. As I get to the top I peek around the tree I'm at, I can see the hen and a jake. As she starts walking to the left the long beard followed behind giving me a 30 yard shot. First bird was 21lbs 10" beard and 1 3/8" hooks. Second bird was 20lbs 9.5" and 1" spurs. Another blessed season in the Pennsylvania hardwoods!!!

Congrats. Here in the western part of the state it has been a rough go. Only because so many guys are not working. Every morning we had encounter with other hunters. Have ended up killing 5 long beards between 3 of us. But been challenging to say the least.
Don't gobble at me...

Seems like everyone is saying that same thing. I had the same experience this season. Odd year or the new norm? Either way, congrats!!
