Nitro vs apex

Anyone have any good or bad with them? I personally like the apex. I shoot 20 gauge 7.5's and they do great. I'm curious though how nitro shells are. What's your opinion or experience with the nitro ammo?

I shot Nitro hevi shot for years and killed a ton of birds with them. I tried the Nitro tss and it's way too tight for me. I am shooting Browning tss 7x9 now and couldn't be happier. Ive never tried Apex, but i have a co worker that loves them.
Tss really leveled the playing field against Nitro, not sure if their price can compete anymore.

Agree , I've always heard people who use Nitro , really like it , but it was just out of my price range. Federal HW and now Apex for me in the 20 ga. and 410

Ive used Nitro 4x5x7 Hevishot in my 12 gauge and loved it. I'm now using Apex GT20 in the 20 gauge and love it too. I do prefer the roll crimp that Apex uses over the fold crimp of the Nitros.

Apex was terribly inconsistent and their customer service was horrible. The Browning TSS is surprisingly good. I set up to reload 20/28 now.

I have seen some really poor loads from nitro, crimps coming apart, leaking buffer all over the place some guys with inconsistent patterns.
The patterns I did not see but the junk crimps and rounds falling apart I have.

Pattern wise... the only apples to apples I have compared is in the 410. I did not count the BB's in a 10" circle, but to look at it the nitro had less holes in the pattern at 40 yrds. Not what I am used to out of a 40 yrd pattern, so I wasn't impressed with either out of the 410. More testing in the off season is needed.
I have shot nitros for probably 10 years now. The only fault"s" I can find in them is the price and the crimp. I would prefer a roll crimp to contain the buffer!
When I order shells for the 10g and my boys 20g its at 600$, I don't walk around shooting crows like I did when I was a kid!
I hunt with a 10g, the pattern out of it with 8/9 TSS is awesome for sure.

shot nitro 457s for a couple years back in the day. same issues as others have mentioned. the star crimp wouldn't hold the buffer, I always had to seal the shells up myself. Had some buffer cause a shell to hang up in the tube once......My 870 actually patterned as good with longbeard 6s as it did with the 457s so I shot longbeards for several years after shooting nitros. Ive shot apex 9s for 2 years . Inconsistent with the patterning, but still better than what I had been shooting. Ive acquired all I need to reload for next season....so going forward ill be doing my own.
