Going to a red dot on my turkey guns and I'm concerned about durability. I bought a cheap truglow for 50 bucks and it's working great so far but I'm worried a 50 dollar optic won't last on a 12 gauge shooting 3 inch turkey loads. What red dot do you guys run and is there any I should avoid?

Now that I know I like the whole red dot thing I want to buy a better site and put this one on another gun.

Thanks

Most people are using FF3 or venom as both have life time  warranty.  Some are using trijicon and a few use Aimpoint (#1). Hard to say how long yours will hold up . If it's working use it and if it breaks, upgrade at that time. Have a TR 25 ( less than 100 dollars) on my sons 20 guage with zero issues to report at this time.

Have a used a Bushnell TR-25 on 12 gauge for the last 4 years with no issue. For the price (around $75) it's a good buy.

I've used the Truglo Tru Tec Micro on mine the last 2 seasons. To be honest I haven't seen where anyone else has used this but I'm pleased with it. Took it to Kansas last year and the weather was brutal-high wind, rain, and temps in the low 40's. Never had a problem with the lens and it has maintained zero.

Been using a TRS-25 on my old Mossy 500, 3" mag, 12 ga, 20" barrel for 5 years now. Absolutely love it. Put a ton of 3"mag Turkey Loads, 00 Buck and fields loads through it without a single hiccup. Also use them on my 303 Brit Deer Rifle, K31 Deer Rifle and 4"629 44 mag. Extend exposure to rain, sleet snow and -0F temp. They just keep on ticking. Some folks favor more expensive Red Dots and call the lowly TRS-25 garbage, but an excllent value and lotta bang for the buck IMO.

Be well.
Love fishing and Deer hunting (Shotgun, Muzzleloader & Pistol). Recently became addicted to Turkey Hunting.

Till this year I hunt 4-5 state's. I have the Tr-25, Trophy, FF2 and FF3. I always have a back up gun set up. My go to gun is still running a FF2. Has never let me down. Probably run 50 rounds thru it last 6-7 years.
Thanks, RP

I bought my `05 870 Super Mag three years ago. Based on the wear of the camo on the grip, I`d say it`s seen lots of action. It came with a cheap Tasco red dot on it. Through the last three years worth of load and choke patterning and field use, it`s been rock solid shooting 3" Hevi-13s. Will it last another 5 years? 10 years? No idea. If I were setting up a gun, I`m sure I would have gone with a different, more expensive red dot. But I have no complaints!

RED NECK

In the last 2 years I have purchased

-4 30 dollar reflex sights(3 are perfect,I've shot 4 birds from a 3.5" browning bps and 60 3.5" lb #5 shells through one of the sights,no issues) I had one that never worked straight from box, sent it back to amazon.I like these for the money because I love the reticle. A

-2 Bushnell trs 25-I would rate both these an A+ for the price, the lightweight and durability so far.I use both on 12 gauge guns now.

-Truglo saddle red dot for Rem shotguns-F-, I fired 6 shots in total new out of pack two weeks ago,I knew it was broke by the 3rd as It just would not adjust by the 6th shot,,the lens fell apart.

-Truglo reflex sight,I just received this sight and mounted it,I am going to dial it in tonight,If I would have known the other would blow up I would never have bought this but it was already in route.  Time will tell.

-Weaver reflex sight-I am pretty excited to test this,It is small, compact and is identical to the vortex/burris.I have not shot it yet.

-Truglo gobble stopper- I mounted it on a 1187 for my father and It has been solid through 15 shells and two patterning sessions, time will tell.

-Vortex venom, I finally decided to spend the money on this April 2nd,I mounted it on the gun last Friday night and then went Saturday to patterning it.What a  show with this sight,It was obviously defective from the factory,I sent it back and the new one will be here today.I was going to sell it but have calmed down and plan on adding it to a 12 gauge single shot,I figure It is guaranteed for life so I don't care if I break a dozen of them, their customer service was excellent but  think the actual product is worth about what i paid for the 30 dollar reflex sights....imo.

From my experience,It really doesn't matter what you spend as they are all just a piece of electronic equipment that can or will break at some point,I am not sure I would ever spend more than 130 dollars again,if I ever did buy another .

I have had a Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on my 835 for the last 12 years.  I only shoot 3 1/2 inch Hevi 13's.  This gun has been to South Dakota and Kansas via AIR along with Florida and Wisconsin trips via truck with ZERO problems.  Not bad for a $50 red dot.

SOCOM304

They are more $, but my Burris FF3's have been great and reliable for me.

Mueller MX-1.  I've had this on my 835 since 2008, put many 3.5" shells through it and she still holds zero.  I like it.

I've got a Truglo Gobblestopper on my Benelli Nova 12 ga.  I've used it multiple seasons and shoot a number of shells through it each pre-season because it comes off for other seasons after the spring.  No problems shooting 3-1/2" shells so far.

I put the same thing on my Remington 870 20 ga.  So far, so good.

For price/functionality, I don't think they can be beat.
