Trijicon SRO vs RMR M3500

Picked up a stoeger M3500 recently. Would like to add a red dot to it for spring turkey. Wondering what nice I should be looking at. The trijicon models are more money than I'd really like up spend, but I also don't want poor quality or weak reliability/durability either.

Mount options and input would be appreciated.

Also, what are the warbird guards I kept seeing being mentioned previously? Where does one get one from?

The RMR is more rugged than the SRO . They say it's because of the shape of the housing . I think the Sro  was designed as a Pistol optic but I seen them on shotguns and rifles . But both are very good optics . Scalarworks makes a mount that is very durable and sits about as low as you can get to the receiver . It's pricey . There are only 2 models of the mount . One for mossberg and one for Benelli . Your Stoeger should have the same same hole spacing and threads as the Benelli . I have a Trijicon rmr with the scalarworks mount on my M2 . I am very happy with it . I have a lot invested in that set up .
But I don't think you can find a more rugged sight and mounting platform . Depending on your style turkey hunting can be rough on equipment . Let alone the pounding a turkey load puts out . Good luck .

Pricey, but oh so rugged, reliable AND low profile. I went with the tritium/fiber, so I wouldn't have to deal with battery's and on/off.

Based these posts, I'm inclined to go to the RMR over the SRO.

What about comparing the FF3 to the RMR? Other reading lead me to believe that the RMR was vastly superior. Also seemed to be that multiple individuals felt a Vortex was a better option over the FF3 due to more brightness levels among a few other things.

I just looked through an SRO for the first time at the SCI show last week. It is really amazing from a clarity standpoint and I did like the larger window. Pricey but really sweet. Personally I liked it better than the RMR based on looking through both. The window on the RMR just seems tiny after you look through the SRO.

Ive not owned an RMR so cant comment beyond a couple friends who really like them. I own two FF3s, an FF2 and a Nikon Spur and they all have been excellent on my 12 ga SBE and magnum revolver set ups. The FF3 is half the price and more than durable enough for turkey applications. Ive been running one for years with zero issues other than losing a couple dust covers along the way. For a turkey gun and if it were RMR vs FF3, assuming equal durability, similar window size, and perhaps easier battery changes on FF3? Id be inclined to go FF3 and save the money. No vortex experience so wont opine.

Burris just announced the FF4 which I was able to look through at the same show. New dust cover arrangement but the big news is they will have a built in choice of reticles you can change easily. 3MOA dot and circle dot which I really liked. Prior to learning this I had just bought a Holosun 507A, mainly to get the reticle options. Waiting for a Sumtoy mount for that now for a new M2 20 gauge. It has a bit larger window than the burris units and RMR and some options I liked. Will see how it does. Lots of reflex site options out there all of a sudden.

I have a Ff3 and my son has a Vortex  .Both are nice and have never let us down . That said I don't think they are as durable as a RMR . There is a reason law enforcement and military use trijicon .

Obro, between the vortex and the FF, which would you say is better?

Obro - That mount looks vault tight and low profile. Any idea how low the scalarworks mount is compared to the 336 or Sumtoy mounting option? Looking at Scalarworks website it looks in photos like maybe the lowest mount available without going to speedbead. With the rmr removed can you see the rib and shoot normally?

The Vortex has more brightness settings but they are both pretty close . Maybe some other guys could comment on what they think about the differences . I have never had the mount on the gun without the sight attached to the mount so I couldnt answer that . The 336 is pretty low . I wouldn't think the Scalarworks is lower than that but it sits low for sure .

After reading tons of reviews I headed to store to buy an RMR but once I got there an looked through every red the SRO came home with me , there wasn't a close second.the SRO is extremely tough just not RMR tough

Well I picked up a used RMR type 2 with the 3 moa dot. It's in next to new condition looks like.

I have a mount in the mail on it's way to me. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Sumtoy choke this week.

Fingers crossed it turns out well.
