Me and my hunting buddy are planning to make a trip to Rosebud reservation this spring.  We had a trip planned last year to South Dakota but a blizzard came in on our way up and our guide told us we woudln't make it out of the room. Turns out they got about 2 feet of snow and ice in 3 days so it was a good call to reroute.   We ended up heading out to Oklahoma and both got a public land Rio out there so it ended up being a good trip.

Any of you guys that have done Rosebud trips I would love to hear your thoughts on must do's or don'ts.  We are excited about the opportunity and want to make the best of it!

Many thanks in advance

Depending on the weather, much of the hunting may be spot/stalk type. Be sure to pack clothes for cold or hot conditions. The first day we hunted up there, it rained all day, except for maybe 45 minutes. My buddy and I still tagged 3 that day, and finished up with #4 the following morning. We used Steve Jones, but I don't know if he is still guiding. He was very good, knew that country like no other, and worked his butt off to keep us in birds in spite of the pouring rain. If he is no longer guiding, I would try BYOB2, a young guy named Chris I think. We stayed at the casino and the room was good and they had a buffet in the evening that was pretty good. I have heard horror stories about some of the guides, but we had no complaints at all with Steve. The guide will usually have a daily charge and we also tipped him as well. Best of luck.
