20 gauge rookie - 870 youth with 21" barrel

Gents,

I just picked up one of these for my soon to be 10 year old's birthday.  Without spending hours and hours reading, could someone please just help me cut right to the chase?  I'm HOPING to just use the bead on the barrel for him (praying the poi is good).  Where should I start on choke and load choices?  I'm gonna be putting a patriot spring in it tonight.

FYI - We are gonna be woods/mountain hunters, without a huge amount of visibility especially after greenup, with birds under 40 yards 80+% of the time.  Also, if I had my choice (assuming there's a choke choice and will most likely shoot them good), we would shoot Hevi-13 #7's out of the gun.  Of course, I'm open to other suggestions though.

I would start with the Remington Super Full for heviShot at $10 especially for a young shooter.

On average, it shoots the Hevi #7's and Federal HW #7's very well. 

Other great choices with those 2 shotshell loads include:

Indian Creek  .555
Pure Gold .570 and .555  (depends on your gun)
SSX .550

I would try a remington super full and carlsons .575 with heavy weight 7s and hevi 13 7s.

Yeah, from what I've seen the RSF would be a good option for a child. It doesn't pattern as tight as other chokes in my 870 youth but the pattern is very even. If you want to stretch it on out get a Sumtoy .562.

I have my son shoot TSS though a Hasting's .562 and it's not too tight at 40 and my Fed HW numbers weren't tight either. 

I would get the Sumtoy .562 and shoot either the Hevi #7 or the Fed HW #7 in a 3", 1.5 oz load.
