I hate to say this because I'm about as far away from an expert as you could get but I have developed an interest in the one siders and do believe that what makes them unique is where they hinge. It seems like when you hinge them in the corner you only have one rail to deal with and it maybe makes it easier to tune or just sound better to my ear. If your gonna hinge it in the middle you might as well keep both rails usable. Again this is just a quick observation and I'm sure Darrin has a reason that I can't even comprehend. Either way there some nice looking boxes that anyone would be proud to own including myself.

What I've been told you get a shorter more realistic yelp hinged in the middle. When its hinged in the corner the yelp is a little more dragged out in the front and it looks like the way the sides cut in on the lid it allows the paddle to close more.  Darrin didnt just design it to be different theres a reason.

Well said talking with TJ Johnson he told me that design is a pretty involved call to make, harder than a two sided call.  If you guys want to hear one designed that way go to TJs Facebook page he has a video of a smoker on his page in that design.

That Dawkins single sider is an innovative call. And more importantly it sounds great.
