A little more info, i hunted opening day saturday the 9th, called in a nice gobbler at 10:00, all was going to plan, when we were buzzed by a pair of geese who had a nest not to far out in the field. The gobbler took off not to be seen again! I planned on hunting at the same farm for three more days then head to the mountians out west for the rest of the week. I hunted monday the 11th and it was good. I went out early to meet a friend at 5:00am and made a plan of attack, he was going to the very back of the farm i would go to the middle and try agian for the gobbler that got away on saturday. At about 7:00 i heard a gobble twice then quite till a ten ga. cannon went off twice! The way that it sounded he was within 50 yards. I then heard a hen go nuts right behind me, which i figured was my buddy walking up with his prize, but when i turned aroud i found a very unhappy hen looking at me. 8:35 and i meesed up everything so far, i decided to move up and hunt a oak ridge at the front of the farm. I found a nice open area to set up and tried a few yelps, bang it was on!! The race to set out my decoys and set up my spot. I got settled in and hit the call, bang he was gobbleong before i was finished. 13 gobbles later he was standing 40 yards away looking at my decoy over a log, i figured he would not jump the log so i took aim and pulled the trigger, game over. i loaded up to find mark and his bird, but he missed twice! I will post pictures as soon as i can,
21.5 lbs
10.5 beard
1.7/16 spur
1.3/8 spur
if i got the numbers right, we took pictures and cleaned the bird and went to the mountians that afternoon. It rained all but 1 day the rest of the week, talk about a muddy camping trip. Picture 60mph winds, 2" of rain per hour. total of 7" of rain i think we got, while only losing two tents to the wind. This trip story will be talked about for a long time.
