With season out I've been doing some fiddling. I've been shooting a 2 3/4" 1 7/16 oz handload with straight 9s out of a .575 Carlson's for the past two years with great results. I've been wanting to gain a bit more in the 20" circle for better coverage so I gave the thought of moving to a 3" 1 5/8oz load and tried a few out after season passed and a few were excellent but then I stumbled across some 418 count 18.75g/cc 9.5s. Went to shooting Ronny Savage's version of the 2 3/4" 1 7/16 oz load with the 9.5s and I've found the hybrid I've been chasing for the past few years. Plenty of up close "oopsy" room with more then enough coverage at 40 to cover my rear if a yardage misjudge or awkward shot comes into play. The pictures are at 20 and 40 yards from the barrel and both are shot with a 2 3/4" 1 7/16oz 9.5 load out of a .570 Sumtoy. Just need to dial in the dot and it's off to the races.
