Well I've been hitting hit hard on the lower shore of Maryland and decided to try another
location that has held birds over the years. I've killed some nice birds on this lease and today was no different.
I slip inside the woods and sit about 10 yards off of the field on the back side of a pond. Birds typically roost within 100 yards of this spot and today they held true. I start some soft tree yelps at 0520 hours just as the sun begins to rise. Within seconds I get some Jake yelps from a distant tree. Shortly after I hear a nice throaty gobble. The kind that when you hear you think oh yea he's a boss hog. The morning was filled with a dense fog cover that I thought would hinder fly down but to my surprise they stayed the course. While talking to a hen and getting an occasional gobble I finally see her work her way in my direction. What follows her is 2 jakes that stand in front of me for what felt like forever. Shortly after I get that throaty gobble after some yelps on my diaphragm. Well within minutes that bird is strutting his way through the fog all the way to the gun. 25 yard shot and the rest is history.
One of my most memorable hunts. Man I can't get enough!
