looking at a 870 20ga for my son it doesnt say express on the action is this an earlier model . has 21' barrel and a laminant stock. thanks

Not sure how old it is, but I have an 870 Youth model that is right at 10 years old and it has Express Magnum on the side and then I have a BRAND NEW 870 youth model that does not have express on the side.  My guess is that it is newer based on my two models.

The newest ones are called Compact and don't have the Express on the side.  This is the way my son's is.  I would get a Knoxx Spec Ops recoil reducing, adjustable stock for it if you can.  They really make a difference and the adjustability is nice.
