Pine Ridge/Rosebud Indian Reservation South Dakota

Hey Guys, I'm looking into planning a 2020 hunt to South Dakota for a merriams hunt with my dad and 2 friends..  (5 of us total).  Being from Georgia I'm kinda confused on how the Indian reservation thing works..  It's my understanding to hunt the Indian Reservations you have to hire a tribal member and he may or may not know a thing about Turkeys which is fine as we are all experienced hunters.  My question is what is the going rate for a tribal member?  Do we pay for 5 tribal members (one per hunter) or one tribal member (one per group)? 

Ultimately I'd like to find a place that we can go back every year and hunt merriams and/or rios on the cheap without any guides but I hear the hunting is outstanding on both Rosebud and Pine Ridge.  thanks for any help in advance.

We are headed to rosebud thursday. There are 4 of us and we have 1 guide total. From what i've heard the guide drives you around, points out birds, and you go try to kill them. You do have to call and get a reservation permit and you have to know who will be your guide when you do that. I think we called in (as soon as it opened) around first of april.  The permit was around $150.  I can let you know more when we get back.

I have hunted Rosebud twice, plenty of birds. As far as killing a sure enough Merriams, other birds (Rios) have been transplanted in areas and they have mixed, the locals call them "dirty birds". You will be glad you have a guide, the tribal land is not all one big area, but many areas broken up within private property and not marked with signs. Your tribal license is no good once you step off the tribal land, our guide knew the place well, and had us in birds the entire time. There is a casino at the Nebraska border just up from Valentine, that has good accomodations as well as buffet dinner in the evenings. I have heard mixed reviews on the guides, but the guy we used was excellent, he had a great sense of humor and knew that reservation very well. Mount a tail fan on a brown plastic clothes hanger with zip ties, you can fan birds up there. I have heard Pine Ridge is very good too, we just never went there.

I'm interested in doing this next spring as well. I've got questions also. Do you have to have the guide with you the whole hunt ? As well as are the permits something additional to buying the license ?
