Hey guys look what I found. I'm not a mushroom guy but I know these are pretty desirable to people who like them.  I'll have to figure how to tell when they're ready to eat.

Yep snatch it up and freeze it till ya get more. Here in Missouri some people pay good money for them. I've never had any luck finding them, sheds or Indian arrows heads.

You hardly ever see one growing alone.   There should be more around that one.  What state?

Joined a few groups on Facebook last year trying to learn, they all suggested a particular book but I just don't remember what they said it is called. I was amazed at how many verities there are just here in NY some of them are quite beautiful and have really neat shapes to them. Once vehicle is on the road I want to take a course at the college on them so I can enjoy them with some venison, I just worry about accidentally reenacting a scene from The Beguiled on myself.

I know how secretive guys are about their mushroom spots. It seems I might could do some bargaining here. A Morel pin drop for a Longbeard pin drop lol.

That's a morel but if you ever wanted to be sure just cut them in half. The stems are hollow. You tube the kid Adam Haritan. Learn Your Land it's called. He's really good and will help you id all kinds of mushrooms and edibles

I have scored some awesome shrooms in NY where I hunt. It seems once you find a place they are there year after year. Fun stuff to do while hunting.

That is indeed a Morel. There should be more in the area. Hunting for Morels is huge in Wisconsin and people actually come from out of state to do it. Unfortunately peak Morel season coincides with the Turkey season and causes some conflict on occasion

Bowguy is spot on. Just cut them in half. A true morel will be hollow and the stem will only be attached at the base/wall. There's also the false morel which will look like the ugliest morel you've ever seen. To tell the difference, again, just cut them in the half. The false morel will be attached at the top of the cap. False morels also typically have some cotton-like fibers or chunks in the stem. Hope you find some more. They're good eating. I've got a buddy whose been know to stop working a bird if he finds a patch of morels.

I saw a guy and his daughter sell a sack full for $150 a couple years ago in a small town in NW Missouri, big for locals. I will say Jim and Ed, local mushroom hunters cost me an opportunity at a gobbler I played with for 3 days, lol. I was the visitor and probably would have lost again, lol.

At my local public land spot, they won't allow anyone without a turkey permit into the woods until 1 pm (end of legal shooting time) so it should cut down on the number of ruined hunts.

A lot of the farmers markets here in Wisconsin start having them for sale around mid to late May. They sell for $ 15 to 20 bucks a pound.  I usually try to find a bag of them after I get a Bird and fry them up and have feast of mushrooms and Turkey.
