Where I live in North Louisiana we are not a stranger to tornadoes. I've been really fortunate so far not to be hit directly by one. With the latest thrashing of tornadoes hitting the South East it has got me thinking I need some sort of shelter for my family in case of emergency. If something was to happen it would only be my fault because I did not prepare someplace safe for the wife and kids.

I've been looking on the internet at storm shelters and think I would rather an underground shelter instead of an above ground safe room. I'd like to get any input from you on any that you have built yourself or one that you have had installed that is reasonably priced. I'm looking at possibly up to 10 people including my parents and my brother and his family. We all live pretty close by so hopefully time would permit them to get to my house if a warning was given.

The only 2 things that in my opinion really matter in a storm shelter.                  1-Underground.                                                                                                    2-Thick concrete with lots of re-bar.
Jakes are like scotch. They are not worth a darn until they age.
