Longbeard #5 vs #6 Huge Difference!!

So I've been experimenting with #5 and #6 Longbeards with a couple of chokes out of my Winchester Super X2. I've shot the 3 inch #5 in 1 7/8 oz, the 3.5 in both 2 oz and 2 1/8 0z and the #6 3 inch in 1 7/8 oz and 3.5 inch in 2oz. The #6 2 oz pattern is incredible. I counted 55 hits in the kill zone at 40 yards as compared to only 17 with the #5's. I would like the #5's to pattern better for long range shots but the #6's just blow them away with how even and dense the pattern is. There is no comparison. I'm shooting a Wright's #1 Choke (.680) that I bought from Clark off of here and it has produced the best results for me.


Is it normal for the #6's to pattern so much better and any suggestions on a different choke to get the #5's to shoot better?

From reading around I know you can call sumtoy chokes and ask them and they will fix you up with the right choke for your 5s. From my own experience I spoke with Jebs chokes and I bought their recommended choke for my gun/load of choice with excellent results. And I know that if the first choke doesn't cut it they will send you a different constriction choke let you try it and then you send back the one you don't want.

Try a Sumtoy around .660 - .665 with the LB 5's.

just shoot the 6s pattern density is where its at. 6s will crush them as far as you should be shooting.

What's bizarre about the 3" #6 shells is they have patterned well out of every turkey choke I have shot them through. .655-.670

I am shooting the 6s thru a 680 Carlsons and getting 180s in the 10 at 40 yds.

I get about the same results with both. my 21" 870 with 3" #6 LB's will do 250+ in the 10" circle at 40 yards on a regular basis and with the #5's it's within a dozen pellets.  oh yeah' I shoot a Remington SF choke. My guns likes about every choke I've tried but I like the Remington SF the best.

I have a Super X2, 24" barrel with a Kicks Gobbling Thunder choke (.670) shooting 3.5" Winchester longbeards or supreme 2 oz #6 shot, I cant tell a huge difference in the two. When I bought the gun I borrowed every choke I could get my hands on & shot different brands of ammo (5 & 6 shot) with the intention of shooting #5 shot. I tried force feeding it #5's but the #6's always patterned better. It's been several years ago so I can't begin to name each brand choke I shot but I can tell you the Kicks Gobbling Thunder (.670) with the Winchester #6's outperformed everything else I tried. I patterned some Hevi Shot magnum blends the other day & the Winchesters still came out on top. I know every gun is different but this is what I've found.
