When your trying out different chokes and shells to get the best performance out of your gun do you think its worth it to try a different choke with the exact same restriction that your already using but of a make from a different manufacture. For instance for my gun there are a lot of 675 sizes in different brand names. I don't want to blow $50 0r $60 bucks if I don't have to.
Do most of ya'll just try various restrictions or actually go to the trouble and expense of trying different brands within the same restriction?

Different brands with the same choke diameter will often pattern differently.  Trial and error is the only way to know for sure.

Many people on this site have done the work for you.  Many choke manufacturers, shot shell manufacturers and others have done a lot of research with each gun and shell and can put you ON TARGET without breaking your bank.  Since you know the gun you'll shoot and probably the shell and shot size, pay attention to what others have put in their guns and you won't have to Break the Bank.  I setup an 835, 10 years ago, and decided on shooting Hevi 7's.  Most of the 835 shooters on here suggested Pure Gold .670, Indian Creek .675 and Stardot .676 at the time so I bought the Pure Gold and never looked back.  An even 300 plus at 40 was the result.  IMO don't chase the numbers, find a choke that has an even pattern at the yardage you shoot most often, stick with it and have fun hunting.  Chasing numbers and chokes can get REALLY pricey.

I guess i would look at the shells i wanted to shoot and buy a good quality choke ... but i will have to say i've seen some of the less expensive chokes throw a pretty good pattern ..  I looks at what i'm trying to accomplish from the gun pattern and distance ... i don't chase the numbers on paper .... I have heard people say chokes can make a difference on POI .... but i've never had a problem with a choke , because i use red dot's and scopes for these old eyes ....
