I am trying to decided which way to swing on the the dedicated turkey rig...I'm torn between using the 835 Ulti-mag or getting a barrel for my TC...and on the TC I'm wondering if I would be selling myself short by not getting the 12 gauge over the 20 gauge...I know you guys shooting the TSS are getting plenty of range out of the 20...but I don't reload and the cost of doing it doesn't justify itself to me...I know the performance would be better and might in the future but for now will probably stick to the HTL type factory loads...

the question is will the 12 gauge outperform the 20 enough to sway you (in the TC) ?

Would you even bother if you already had the 835?...I was thinking lighter weight on the TC for those "run and gun" days

Get a barrel for your TC and use both it and the 835. Can't have too many turkey rigs.

if i were in you situation i would get a 20ga barrel for my TC. that way you have a 12 and a 20!

I'd have to say.  No and yes in order of your 2 questions. A 20 is all you need. It has proven itself with Nitros and H 13 s. I shoot a Benelli Nova in 20 and I am seriously thinking about getting a 20 barrel for my TC.

  I went to the 20ga because it's a pleasure to shoot and carry compared to my former 12 ga.  With the right choke/shell combo being able to shoot to 40+ yards with confidence it was a no-brainer for me.  Not that I have a lot to spare.

The 20 kinda does make sense because I could use the same chokes for my sons 20 gauge (both use Winchoke) for testing...and if I do decide to reload TSS then we are both shooting the same caliber and length shells...might be a win/win there for both of us...

Go with a 20.  They are more than capable of getting the job done and they are fun to shoot.  I've got three guns in my turkey hunting collection that I put on rotation, and my 20 gauge might be my favorite.

I have both a 12 and 20 for my T/C and I love them both but the 20 way more  Get a 20 then put a IC or PG 555 in it and it will be the one you hunt with .

I have hunted turkeys for the past 15 years, and this was my first time using a 20. I passed up a shot on two gobblers that came in at 42 yards the first day of this season since I knew it was a bit beyond my effective range with my little 20. I was slightly aggravated knowing that my 12 gauge could've reached out and touched them if I had it, but the next morning I called 4 toms within 35 yards...BOOM! went my little thunderstick and a tom dropped like a rock at 32 paces. I got the small gauge bug and I'm not turning back!

I think the big thing is if you shoot 40 and in the 20ga is fine.  Much over 40 is up in the air with the 20 I think.  Now with in the 40 rang the thing is how dead is dead.  The 280 to 300 out of the 12ga will put him plum dead and the 140 to 160 out of the 20ga is just dead.

I dont think it gets much better than the 835, but one man can never have too many dedicated turkey guns!!!  Im in process of figuring out what brand of 20g I want.
