NH turkeys and Palmers hoot tubes questions?

im in the concord area, how have they been gobbling? ive heard alittle but not much and and getting discouraged, there not really usaing fields like the were in past yrs either.

also does anyone have any tips on getting them to gobble to a palmers hoot tube? and how do i do the purring thing at the end of the sequence?
i can get them to gobble once and awhile but not as much as my frien ds can, like ill do it no gobblke then my buddy does it and they gobble.

I do the purring sound pretty much the same way I purr on a mouth call.

It works the same as purring with a diaphragm call. You can either flutter your tongue or make a gargling action in your throat as you trail off the last note.

Gobblers are finicky, they will respond to one type of hoot one time and not the next.

ok thanks guys, i cant use a diaphragm but i already do the gargling action in my throat but i didnt think it sounded too good

I personally flutter my tongue when I do it, which is the same way I purr on a diaphragm. 

Using a hoot tube the first few times was trickier than I ever expected it to be.  It takes quite a bit of practice to get a decent hoot.  At least it did for me.

I'm retired and live in Bow and have been hearing birds in nearby towns every morning for the last two weeks, I don't go if it's rainy or windy however. Even heard some gobbling on an island in Winni while salmon fishing the other day! It's all early, 5:15-5:45 for the bulk of it, and pretty much over by 6am. Also have seen a high proportion of jakes this year, just as Ted Walski (our State turkey biologist) predicted. They've all been gobbling on their own without using locators, but my new Harrison Hoot N Stick and crow call have proven their worth, drawing responses nearly every time I've tried them.

I have heard a ton of gobbling this year, and most of what I have heard, I didn't need a locator to get them going. Most of what I heard, they started on their own.

Some of the times when I use the standard hoot owl 8 note sequence I don't get a response. If I don't hear a response from that I will send a hoot owl laugh their direction and that usually gets them all worked up. But it doesn't always work!
