I saw a good deal on this Mossberg 500 20 gauge: not sure if it is just a 500 or a Bantam, super Bantam...
It came with 2 barrels, but I am only planning on using it for turkey, it is a 22" barrel. The other barrel is a deer/rifled barrel, has a ported barrel and iron sights, it looks brand new: I will be selling this to pay for some of the other items I need for my set up.

I am planning on getting a Burris or Vortex red dot and plan on shooting TSS #9 shot. I have an SSX choke from another gun.
For those who have 1, which choke do you use and what kind of patterns/numbers are you getting?
How do you like the gun?

Thanks John

Good score, I bought the same rig (single barrel) when they first came out with em.  Your's looks like a std 500? The bantam had a 13" lop stock & the super bantam was 12 or 12-1/4" lop IIRC.  They're a little clunky at the forend but they're a good gun, I took several birds with mine until I started using my Franchi Affinity compact 3-4 years ago.  Mine patterned well with HW7, I'll have to dig out the cardboard to count it.  I just read that #9s aren't legal in IA yet (after I bought a couple of boxes).  I had good luck with lead back in the day as well.

Oh & I think mine patterned best with a Carlson .575.  The factory turkey choke wasn't bad either, I also had an Undertaker & a Tightwad for it.

Yours looks like it has a removable 1" spacer, I have a super bantam with the same spacer. lop with spacer is 13.5", without the spacer it's 12.5". mine is also not marked super bantam and has a 22"barrel.

I have used it in spiring and fall the past 5 yrs.
it's been a reliable, lightweight gun that throws good patterns and holds nice.
But, it's a piece of plastic without a soul. (my first plastic gun and I'm going back to my wooden roots)

I mostly hunted with fed HVWT #7's ----with a SSXchoke which averaged upper 140's in the 10" at 40yds).
I also patterned the trulock choke that is made for the fed #7's, it was a close second with mid 140"s, but the ssx patterns are a little more uniform in my gun.

the Mossberg flush X-full choke it came with had the best patterns with the fed HVWT #6's out of the 3 chokes.
I shot a number of lead loads in those 3 chokes, about 35yds was about where patterns were ethical.

I shot "one" handload of TSS #9s, 1 5/8oz  in it this fall using the Mossberg X-full, it had 257 in the 10" at 40yds with a great 15" hunting pattern and a good 15" to 20" pattern.
POI to POA was dead on with where the fiber optic rifle sights had been set for the Fed HVWT #7s

The forearm rattles, there is an old thread on OG about putting thin felt in it like you use in kitchen drawers to quiet the noise, that worked pretty good, Home Depot had it.

Bought a plain jane wood stock 500 a few years ago that I fixed up a bit. Added a pistol grip stock, changed the forearm and put a tactical safety on it.   I shoot hand load 1 5/8 oz of 9s in a Carlson 575.  Shooting the bead I get around 275 in the 10" at a lazered 40 yards.  Had a scope on it and with adjusted poa I got as high as 325, but I prefer to shoot bead.  It has the 26" barrel, I do wish it was 22" as long as it still shot bead.

All set up: added a Carlsons 575 choke and a Burris Fast Fire 3. I will get out this weekend and get her patterned. Gonna head out and listen in the am, hopefully locate a few gobblers: then shot and see what she does. 38 days till the opener, I am looking
Forward to carrying this gun this year.

Thanks for the replies. John

How did you mount that FF3 John? Which base is that? Thanks!
