Well, the season is winding down quickly here in Missouri, I have tomorrow and maybe Saturday left to hunt. I've been hunting about every day for thr past couple weeks. Thought I'd share a little bit abou this mornings hunt you may find funny.
I went to the same spot I killed my bird on opening day down in the corner of the big corn field along the river. Got in there pretty early and got set up. About 10 minutes later I heard some spitting and drumming back behind me and I knew it was pretty close. A few minutes later an owl went off and a turkey gobbled straight over my head. Iabout jumped right out of my pants. This turkey was roosted right above me in the tree I was set up against. He gobbled off the roost at least 60-70 times. There was another gobbler about 20 yards to my right. These birds made me wait over an hour before they flew down and come to find out they ended up flying back across to the other side of the river. After trying not to move a muscle for an hour I was completely exhausted. I've never had to have that much discipline while hunting. I wanted so bad to look up and see him but I stayed still and waited. I was pretty bummed that they flew back across the river but that's kind of a chance I have to take with this spot. The morning I shot my gobbler they all flew down on my side, but lately they've been pitching down back across the river. As mad as I was, I feel blessed to have been in that situation. To get to experience being so close like that is truly amazing and puts hunting in perspective for me. I don't know if I'll ever be lucky enough to have a situation like that again, probably doesn't happen real often. Just a cool experience I thought I'd share and for yall that have had tough hunting maybe this will make you laugh a little. This morning kinda summed up the tough hunting I've had the last couple weeks. Good luck to everyone else the rest of the year for those that are still hunting. Take advantage of being able to hunt these birds while you can, I know I'll miss it in a few weeks.
