13F when we left the truck and 22F when we got back in.  I was not sure what to expect with the birds but they were fired up on the roost and kept going the first hour on the ground.  We had a Tom and four Jakes pass in front of us at 30 yards.  My son could not get a solid bead on the bird as he never stopped moving.   :'(
It was pure joy to be in the woods and hear the birds gobble.  Not your typical spring hunt weather and we did get cold.  Hope you all had some luck.

My Son and I were out for awhile after fly down. I called 4 Jake's into about 15yds,but my son said he only wanted to shoot a longbeard. I think he wanted to quit around the nicest part of the day. Lol.. Im wanting to get back out,but he likes doing chores and riding around in my brothers tractor feeding cows. I kind of let him run his own hunt even though I would've liked to stayed out longer. We'll be out in the morning for awhile, but i think were in for bad weather again tomorrow afternoon. Good luck and hope everyone stays warm.

Good luck in the am.  After being out for the first time I sure got fired up.  Like you I let my son run the game.  He is 11 and this is our 5th year I believe hunting the youth season.  It seems he gets the opportunities that I only dream of.  It's truly about the hunt and not the harvest for us.  I think he looks forward to Casey's breakfast pizza and a donut after the hunt as much as the hunt.  I just finished seasoning a 22lbs (store bought) turkey that will hit the smoker first thing in the morning.  I don't need the meat.  I enjoy the time with my son.  With that said we are very limited on time to hunt so I don't think he will pass on a Jake and I won't stop him.

Not from Iowa, but out for the Wisconsin LTH Hunt. Had birds going on the roost and when they pitched down they shut down. Temp was 11° this morning we stayed to 10;30 and the cold got the best of him, no other gobbles... Back out at 1:30 after lunch and pictures of our group. When we got back 2 toms out in the field, temp was up to 35°, those 2 walked off the field and we got in and set up, had them back in the field in about an hour. Called them in range and he didn't quite have the gun shouldered right and we ended up with a miss... had another bird talk to us a bit but never showed up. As we left the field the 2 were back out picking in the corn. Hope to have them back in the morning, weather doesn't look too bad until later in the day,
