How many coats of Tung Oil finish on a cedar pot?

I've put 4 coats of Tung Oil on the inside and sanded with 0000 between each coat. So far I've got 2 coats on the outside. I won't able to get the inside baby butt smooth but the outside is really great.

I was thinking 6+ coats on the outside or more coats until the low gloss finish looks thick enough. Is 4 coats on the inside sufficient?  Thanks.

I don't treat the inside of mine at all.  Don't know about others.

tp nice to see you here! I can't answer your question really. I would think it doesn't need  a finish on the inside of the pot. You might need to allow the wood to breath.

I don't think oil finish will affect the sound  . Protecting it from moisture   a hardened finish would

I usually put 2 coats of tung oil on the inside and use spar urethane on the outside. I have made pots with nothing on the inside and noticed no difference in sound. I would think 4 coats on the outside would be sufficent but if you want a thicker look to the finish than you might need to add more coats. I like to use spar urethane on the outside because it has protection from rain and can get a good finish in 3 coats. I'm no expert at finishing wood but this has worked for me.

I researched as much as I could online (I know, it's the internet) and all of these so called "master call makers" said to finish the inside. Without it the open pores of the wood would tend to absorb the sound vibrations so that's why I started to put it on the inside of mine.

Right, wrong, or indifferent that's what I went with. I went with crystal over glass because of the louder longing reaching call, as I already have an aluminum, 2 slates, and another pot that I'm not sure what it is without looking. Plus I just wanted to make my own.
