NH youth success!

As you can see Holden is pretty proud of his 17# 6" bird!
After sitting for a little while listening to a few birds gobble but not move we decided to get closer. As we started to move in their direction we jumped a big tom that was coming in quiet from the opposite direction, ya never know. The other birds were still gobbling so we kept heading in their direction. We got as close as we dared and set up at a "T" intersection and made a few calls with my John Sinclair slate. The birds quickly responded with double and tripple calls so we stopped calling and waited. Soon I heard wings flapping from what I though was in front of me, but no birds. Then Holden who was sitting next to me at the base of a big oak says "there they are". I looked to my left and there were heads every where coming down the logging road I did not expect them to come from (of coarse). Not only were there heads everywhere there was a hen off the road heading right towards Holden. I did not have a good view of the birds as they were coming in from his side of the tree and I lost sight of the hen. Three jakes and a Tom were still on the logging road 20-30 yds away through trees and brush. Soon the hen started to do some nervous putting behind us and Tom followed by the Jakes turned around and started heading the other way. I could not tell what Holden was seeing so I could not call a shot for him. Before I said anything he says "I have a shot" I said if your sure take it. He took it and Jelly headed a nice Jake with Fed. HW #7's. I was really proud of him having the confidence to call his own shot. He did not shoot a Tom last spring and then a buck in the fall because he was nervous. I completely understand him being nervous and did not make a big deal out of it.

Chris O,
It is, it's a Escort youth 20ga. and I really like it. The stock has spacers to make it bigger as I get bigger.
