Spring Creek Calls

Are the birds still active in northern Kansas?  Got a tag burning a hole in my wallet from an April trip. Thinking about one final hunt. Would greatly appreciate any information.

I'm one half hour north of Topeka.  We saw 3 strutters Saturday night. Setup where we figured they roosted.  Heard gobbling half mile north and moved back to the sound, only to see those 3 strutting where we saw them the night before. We came in the pitch black so they weren't spooked. All in all, it's Kansas and turkeys do what they do.  I've seen some longbeard grouped up already.  The broke and fescue is waist high and they're in shorter grass and cropfields now
Whoever said you can't kill em from the couch never was good enough to call a gobbler into the living room

Thanks! I know it's getting late but just not ready to hang it up for 11 months. I'm leaning towards taking the plunge.

Do it.  Can't kill 'em on the couch.

It's gettin' to be that time of the season when you might need to put the sneak on 'em.

I'm with Spaight.....If you've got the time, cash, and approval from work or spouse............do it.  I like late season hunting.  Actually.......I like it from the opener to the end and usually try to think of where I can extend it.  I've been trying to figure out a way to make it to NE or WA over Memorial Day weekend and it won't depend on if someone thinks the birds are done or not.  :)

I hunted today - birds aren't doing anything per most folks.  I got 2 fired up and talking from about 500 yards after their hens went back down into the river bottom.  One of those birds is an absolute horse (drove out and got glass on him from about 150 yards after I heard him gobble at a super loud diesel truck at 6:15.

I'm gonna stay on him until he is in hand.

Might still be able to sneak in a KS hunt too.

Yup, they still are. Shot this bird this morning after catching him slipping into a wooded bottom just before roost time last night. He was right there this morning. Between my calling and the 6 am train, I bet he gobbled 50 times before finally walking across about 200 yards of pasture to get to me. Thank God for HTL ammo as he was not coming any closer. A NE Kansas Eastern weighing 20.5 lbs., 10" beard and 1" spurs. Was standing over him before the sun broke the horizon.

Been deathly quiet since Saturday here. Haven't heard a bird on the roost this week. Just got back to the house. Saw 2 gobblers without hens so gave it a shot. Not a peep.

Bolandstrutters

My buddy has had six strutters on camera everyday this week in Kansas. No hens to be found.  Don't know if they are talking, but they still look fired up.
