Bowhunting without a blind

I filled my first PA tag with my 20 gauge.  I decided to try for #2 with a bow, which would be my first.  I've had several close encounters but it's an entirely different ball game in my opinion.  Three birds inside 40 this week and they would be dead with a shotgun, but I haven't even got the bow drawn yet.   This has definitely added a new challenge to the hunt trying to head shoot a big woods, public land tom without a blind or decoys.  I know I need to be more diligent on selecting my setup locations which is what has cost me. Any tips are appreciated.

didn't take me long to realize I was better off facing a big tree than with my back against it.   When I tried it I did manage to kill 2 in three days.   One public and one on a small lease.   Definately a different game.

Agree with guesswho...need some sort of blocker to draw bow...tough but very rewarding!

You'll  spend more time looking for a set up most of the time. Longer shots may come into play too. Sounds like your using head chopper type broadheads so that limits you also. Determination will be your best tactic.

Both the birds I got this year, were at 7 yards.Could I have gotten them with a bow? Absolutely, but they might have seen me draw. I have a pop up blind, but packing it around is a big hassle. I want to hunt with a bow, the same way I hunt with shotgun.

Gotta lot of respect for the effort. I have never attempted the bow. Maybe one day though. As other have stated setup will be key and either the bird will have to pass behind a large obstruction to enable you to draw or you will have to have something to conceal your movement as you draw. I am using the Muzzy M.O.R.E. heads.  I am hesitant to body shoot one in the big woods.  I don't trust one taking a death glide off a mountain that I'll never be able to find.  I figured if I get a shot it's either a d-cap or miss.

That is what has given me fits.  I tried that and I am fidgety always trying to peek around to see where he is.  I know I need to work on that.  I can be much more still sitting.

You ever heard of a sit/drag? They are up in PA and are awesome to bowhunt turkeys out of!~
