Headed to south Dakota black hills on may 16th can we get away with a 2 wheel drive sedan or should we have a 4x4?

Ozarks Hillbilly

If given the option I would opt for 4X4 roads can get pretty sloppy and greasy when they get some rain/snow on them.

Bolandstrutters

Definitely a 4x4 if you plan on doing any exploring.  I got into some greasy situations last week with my 4x4, but did okay.  if you just plan on driving main roads and parking at gates then a 2wd would be fine.

4X4 all the way!

4x4 for sure. When i was there last month even the main roads were a no go with 2wd when the snow hit.

4X4 ALL THE WAY.  We went a couple of years ago and it snowed the first day we were there and rained the last day .  If it wasn't for the 4 wheeled drive vehicle we had, we would have had a LOOOOONG walk out due to the VERY GREASY mud, we encountered.  Have fun and GOOD HUNTING!
