My Dad showed up yesterday with his 870 so I could change his stock out to a thumbhole and to my suprise had a 20 ga youth model 870 as well. Said he got it for my 5 year old. Still a little big for him to use, so Dad (me)  is gonna break it in for him until he is ready. It was already sporting an IC 555 and I  added a tru glo adjustable fiber optic peep sight. Plan to get a sling and swivels for it this weekend.

What yall suggest load wise...3" 7s how do the hevi 6s do.

I'd go with the 7's.  I'm averaging mid 130's in a 10" circle at 40 yards with the RSF choke, but some people are getting more hits.  I'd rather fill my shell with 7's than 6's when you only have 1 1/4 ounce to play with, and the results on live subjects speak for themselves.

I just picked up an 870 youth model yesterday. Ordered a choke from Sumtoy and also a RSF for $10 that someone on here linked. I've got one box of Fed Hvy 7's , one box of Hevi-13 7's, and some Win Super Pheasant 6's left to play with. I will be ordering more of whichever Hvy 7 load shoots the best. :smiley-char092:

I would shoot #7's in factory loads or start loading TSS #9s, which is what I am having my 6 yo shoot.

Also, I'd save up and get a Knoxx Spec-Ops recoil reducing stock.  It adjust to 11" LOP and really does reduce the recoil significantly.  It is well worth the investment.

If you are not in a hurry you can get one from Optics Sale usually the cheapest, but their shipping is pretty hit or miss and having it in stock is an issue.  Just perform an internet search and find it cheap.  My 6 yo does very well with it.
