Switched around and hunted a different tract of land this morning. Everything you can do to screw up a bird has been done this week. Been sitting around for 5 months from my back surgery and when I hit the woods I just went ape crazy. So I slowed down a bit and let it play out a little better and tried to get over missing a stud yesterday at about 6-7 yds.
Didn't hear a peep at daylight except for hens so I laid back in the lounger and caught a cat nap. Didn't hear squat all day til I headed for the truck. Heard this guy way up above me on a mountain side and figured that there was no way to get to him. Walked on to the truck and I could still hear him. It was 10:30 or so and he kept getting hotter. I headed out a briar infested logging road and kept getting closer. He was now about 75 yds straight down below me and I came upon a clearing that I thought he'd come to. I let him gobble again and then pounded him with a lights out anodized aluminum pot call that ate him up. He came spitting and strutting on a string, shot him at 20 yds. The fed 7's made a bloody mess of him. He's over 21 lbs, good 10.5" beard and 1.25" straight dull spurs, he'll score real good ! We are rolling now !!
