Went out this morning with my dad to a fern we hunt. We set up in an area that the birds are usually in in the spring. About the time birds should start talking 3 gobblers went off maybe 200 yards from us. Soon the woods were filled with birds. Hens were pitching out of the trees around us and 3-4 more birds around us had gotten fired up. While watching and listening to the show, a gobbler who had not gobbled appeared out in front of us in full strut, he walked straight to where all the hens had pitched down and stated angling to are right. Soon 2 birds that had been gobbling deeper in the woods were heading are way. While I watched the one gobbler out on front of me maybe 80 yards, 2 hens came in from our left and walked up to with 15 yards of us. Once she couldn't find the gen that had been calling she started with some loud yelps and the original bird I had been watching started marching our way. Once he started our way one of the hens ran straight to him and squatted down. The ol boy then proceeded to do his dirty work. After they finished with their business the hen walked away going away from our setup, I began to call softly and he slowly made his way toward us. Now in range the only problem was he would never come out of strut, so I told my dad when he gobbles I'm gonna shoot. I cut hard at him and when he let out his last gobble I let him have it.
