Hi all,

I'm looking to get my season started a little early this year and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on the GWNF? I was looking to hunt the Bath or Highland county area. Any info would be helpful as I've never been there. I am not looking for someone's spot just a place to start looking, thanks!

Haven't been for a few years, area def has birds. Hunted bath co. Rt 624 access. Star chapel road is off of 624 usually the gate is open for turkey season good numbers and can get very far aback on the mountain. Also at the end of 624 starts an area known as "Kelly's run" long walk getting in gate is always closed in spring area lays very nice once you make the initial climb. Also a little further down 220 is the C.C.C. It's 20 some miles of forest roads that will put you on top of the mountain. Can get clear to 39 from 220 or clear to rt 600. There are birds all over that country. From the ccc road you'll be on top of the mountain and will be able to hear much better. All the birds I've killed there have worked great but it seems you really have to close the distance on them because it's such huge country very different than what I'm used to.

You. An access Kelly's from hidden valley also. That would be another good place to check. You. An drive back on the mountain a ways before you hit a gate. The road to Burnsville off of 220 if you can find a pull off that's not private. Also the primative area in highland co is a good area to if it's open during spring season.

We hunted there way back in the mid to late 80s. DESCENT deer and turkey numbers back then. We had some trouble with the locals and their illegal activities which had nothing to do with hunting.......

Lots of public opportunities but big rough mountains is the norm there. I often think of that area but have not been back in a long time. Good luck.
