Copper pot question

Made a copper pot from a pot I had that the glass broke, got a new sound board and copper and glued it together with goop.

The call sounds terrible and is actually really hard to get sound from, strikers seem to just slide across, scuffed it, sanded it cleaned with alcohol and even add some rain chalk which got me some turkey sound but not  very good.

Any advice, other than putting it in a clay pigeon thrower ;D

Copper pots require less air volume behind the surface.  So if your using a pot that had a 3.5 in suface in it, your already behind. That said, I've found that acrylic sounds better than any wood striker I have tried.  If you haven't tried an acrylic on it, I'd try that.  Use only a scotch Brite pad to condition the copper 1st.  Hope this helps.

Green Scotchbrite only on copper. I also recommend light pressure
