Copper call striker position

So I got a copper over acrylic in a Osage pot by Wendell rye from lights out and man she's a sweet sounding call. Am I crazy or do you have to play a copper call a lot closer to the center to get that turkey talk out of it?

I would have to say it depends on a few things. The first would be how the call it is put together. Another is the weight of the striker or type of wood the striker is made from. Another would be striker pressure and how you hold it. etc......

Most of the copper calls I have run seems to play best when played close to the center of the pot.

mine sound the best about 1/2 in around the edge.  Not that the center is bad, just along the edge is better.

This is exactly the same with the 3 or 4 Sinclair copper pots I have

I'll agree with this, very similar to a ceramic as far positioning of the striker on the surface.....a hint closer than with other pots.

Well that settles its, I'm not crazy. it just felt unnatural to play so close to the middle, but sounded much better than along the outside

I can't say the same for all of the Yingling copper pots but I've got one and gave one to my dad as a gift. They are the only two I've played. Both of them seemed to produce the sound I was looking for when working about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way into the pot. The fiber rod gives it a nice raspy sound and using a black locust has given me a cleaner/higher pitch. Love my copper pot.

You're not crazy...My coppers sound better toward the center also...
