Thank you for sharing. When alone in the turkey woods, comes a time for healing and remembering. I am the closest to God when in the woods. It can be hard to control your thoughts when alone ,and it can bring on emotional  mood swings. Your dad will help you through it ,and you will recover. All your memories of past will come out in gods church. The turkey woods. Keep strong and think spring. Merry Christmas

Turk you sure are right....time alone in the spring woods is pure medicin for a broken heart!   I've had some great conversations with my savior while chasing gobblers.   I sure appreciate the kind words buddy!!  God bless

I'm glad to hear that your in a place where you can hit the woods again, early spring mornings are a healing place for anyone. Sounds like you and your pops need to go on a hunt. Spend some time with your dad out there, and find someone to pass that great tradition on to. Instill the great memories of your past hunts with someone else. Good luck and Happy hunting!!

Hoosier I'm glad also my passion has reignited!   I love turkey hunting and so did my dad.   Without a doubt buddy I'll think of him the whole time I'm out there and talk and discuss situations.  I have 3 little boys who were attached to my dad and the two oldest will be going with me this year and I'm really looking forward to that!    I believe my dad will be chasing long beards this year just over in glory!!   God bless

I feel your pain young man as I was your age when I lost both parents and x father-n-law back in 95 & 96.  Buried all three of them in 10 months time and felt like the life had been squeezed out of me and lost desire for many things for a while.
You will grow stronger and you will honor your father in many ways that you do not even realize as time passes on but it is those moments that you sit and enjoy your truest passion that a memory will hit you like a freight train and cause you to tear up out in the middle of nowhere and with no one else but you and Dad knowing why.

Leave the camera at home until your ready for such an endeavor again, Enjoy the upcoming season and many to come young man, pass on to your boy's what your father passed on to you.  You truly have my sympathy as you grieve your loss.  God bless you and your family as I wish you luck in your many hunts ahead..

Apologizing:  does not always mean you are wrong and the other person is right.
It just means that you value your relationship more than your ego.

I feel your pain. I lost my Dad 4 years ago. Like your Dad, mine was very important to me. He taught me how to hunt, and fish, and how to be a man. Near the end, he couldn't hunt any longer, but loved talking to me about my hunts. The last spring he was alive, he took a turn for the worst, and was put in the hospice house. I was out on a hunt when they called to let me know. I told them I was headed to the truck and I would be there as quick as I could be. Dad told me not to, and to kill a turkey for him. The next legal turkey to come into range, a jake with a 5" beard, hit the dirt. I packed him up, took some pictures and headed home. After cleaning the bird, I went to the hospice house and stayed with him until very late.
Dad didn't pass until July, but it was hard to see him decline.
These days when I harvest a gobbler, I look to the heavens and point up, then thank God and my Dad.
I'm glad you found your passion again. :icon_thumright:
