This gobbler was so sneaky! I never saw him even though he came up to maybe 35 yards in the hardwoods. Plently of thick vines as well. He moved left-then right and I still could not see him! And I was slightly above him too. He walked off after 1 hour. I will try him tomorrow.

You didn't lose.  You are just gonna chose a different battlefield.  He has to win every time, you only need to win once!  Good luck.

Too bad.  As Yogi said, "it ain't over til it's over"

Agree, you didn't win today but look out tomorrow, it's game on. I chase a turkey for over 2 weeks before pulling the trigger on him last week. He was the boss bird. Good luck, nothing like the excitement of hearing and seeing a gobbler.

Look at it this way: If you'd have killed him, your season would now be over. This way, you get to hunt another day and probably increase your knowledge about turkey hunting. He, or one of his cohorts, will eventually give in to your tactics and you'll have all year to dream about spring 2017! Me...my season ended a couple of weeks ago and I'm dreaming about setting up my Remington 870 20 gauge instead of the same in 12 gauge which I usually took this year. All three of my birds this year were taken at 20 yards, so a 20 gauge should be more than adequate.

You didn't really lose. You just didn't call him in. When a gobbler doesn't come in do you think he goes and tells the other turkeys "I beat a hunter today!"?  This is hunting people, not a game. We don't win or lose. That would require an opponent that is also trying to win. A turkey isn't trying to win, he's just being a turkey. If he thought your calls were anything other than that of a hen he wouldn't have even been there. He didn't win and you didn't lose.  He's still alive and you still have a tag.

Good luck with him. This is why I love to turkey hunt it's like chess when he beats you once all you want to do is beat him.

Well said, X2

Last day, four hour battle...I went home alone...
Yesterday, same bird...Two and one half hour battle...I went home alone...
Great way to end a season! And I mean that literally...
