Well , season here in ms came to a end today. It seems like the older I get , the faster time goes by. I killed one bird , missed one and let one get away. All this was the first week and a half. The rest of the season I called up several hens and a few jakes. Never really worked a bird after the first of the season. Our weather was strange and hunting pressure on my lease tripled. It was hunted everyday of the season by at least 2 guys at a time. 1300 acres don't hold up well to that. Anyway , time to take a break and then pull out my bow. Start count down to next season. Good luck to everyone that is still hunting and those starting.

Congrats on the bird. Always bittersweet to see a season end, but my seasons blend from one in to the next - fall redfish, ducks, winter redfish , spring turkey, summer redfish.  Helps ease the pain.  You are right though, they go by fast.

Either way you had a great season and got to enjoy the hunt for these birds. You will live to hunt another day.

It's always a sad day when it's over. As I have gotten older I have realized that half the fun is the anticipation that builds as the next year gets closer. We will be here all year to help you survive till next season.

Over for me too.  Several days left in Illinois' 5th season but with life getting in the way next week, today was pretty much now or never.  Had 3 jakes run in at 6:00am.  Had three more coming in on their heels but didn't see a long beard swinging on any of them either.  Decided to take the biggest bird and feel blessed.  6" beard, full fan, 1/2" spurs.  I'm already looking forward to next year!  Good luck to you in the coming years!

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

Between a wife and 2 kids along with a full time job and lack of a oversized bank account , it just isn't feasible. If I live to retirement,  then I will be financial set and have the time to do it. Plan on hunting these birds all over the country good lord willing.

Congrats on a successful one. If you would have only had the 1st week and a half to hunt, you would have thought "wow, what a great season!" LOL

I'm also envious of the guys that start their season way south, like in... what? February? March? when we're still shoveling snow. Same feeling, just reversed. (Yeah, I know... head south to start!  :))

I feel your pain. Mine has been over for a week. It was a disappointing season for me. I got drawn for 2 excellent hunts in FLA. Between bad weather, Walking Wally's, poachers and a missed shot, I got skunked. Fortunately my SC season was awesome!! In 2 trips up, I tagged out on 3 gobblers, including 2 with one shot. But my trips to NC, Georgia and Bama all fell through. I ended up calling it a season a week and a half earlier than planned, and headed back to work.
It always sucks when it's over, but especially for a guy who lives in Dixie. I have to watch all the northern guys still hunting and schwacking birds, while I wait for next spring. I don't fall hunt in FLA, and there is no fall season in SC. Oh well, it still beat the heck out of being at work!! ;) ;D

It's a trade off. We start killing birds down here in early March and you guys up north go crazy. Then you guys get started and we are done. Drives us crazy. It evens out.
