Well my favorite type of hunt: aerial photo scouting public land and a quick walk through the area the week before to see if birds are in the area. I cam back today and had 4 birds going. I set up on the closest.
Got within about 100 or so yards on the roost. Gave 2 series of tree yelps and I heard him pitch down.
I soon had him coming into me and he hung up at about 35 yards. I had a nice tree about 5 yards out and he was spitting and drumming in some mountain Jagers. Just could not get him to peek out.
I did hear him gobble again and it sounded like he was walking away. Some soft cluck and he either turned position or walked back in.
With in minutes and another series of soft clucks he clears my cover tree and I let him have it from about 35 yards. The mag blends knocked him a few yards back!
2 year old: 19.06#, 11/16" spurs, and an 8.5" beard.
Hopefully Mountinburd will call me in a bigger one this week!
