Called in my first bobcat this past Sunday, at less than 10 yards! Don't know what my dsd hen had going on this weekend, but she got the crap beat out of her by a group of hens on Saturday and was just about cat food on Sunday!
Five years ago we hardly ever saw bobcats, although we knew they were around, now it's all to common to see them. Come on Illinios, let's open up a season on these things! Already had one of our properties turkey population hurt, don't need the same thing happen to my other properties.

The last two seasons, I have called in as many bobcats as turkeys...

They are interesting critters.  I was sitting on a fallen tree, and had one jump up right on top the tree...  He scared me, and I scared him...  He walked to the end of the log and watched me for a bit, apparently unconcerned, but curious as to how I was making those turkey sounds.

We also have mountain lions, and that little situation has made me choose spots where no critters can come over the top of me.  Mountain lions are also the reason that I load my gun walking out before shoot time...  Prints all over both ranches I am hunting this year.

I had a motion hen decoy back in the day, and had a bobcat attack it...  when he hit that hard plastic decoy it startled him, and he jumped straight in the air and took off...

Called in a red fox this year as well, which are supposedly not all that common in California...

Oddly, I get some satisfaction from calling in the predators...  Called in more yotes than anything, but bobcats come in second, with three foxes (two greys and a red now).  As close as they have come without me seeing or hearing them, I would guess that bobcats are probably the biggest turkey killers out there.  I usually do not see them until they realize I am not a turkey.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

It's not uncommon to call a coyote or two into our setup in NY.

We don't call in too many predators on our sets here which is strange considering the number of piles of scat we find while hunting. Now, my friends camp, better chance of calling a coyote than a turkey.

Called in a bobcat in the fall in MO about 5 years ago. IL does have a bobcat season now...fyi
When I turkey hunt I use a DSD decoy

From my understanding the season on bobcats is supposed to open up this fall, but I believe a person is only allowed one. Also, from what I understand, there will be a quota. Once that magic number is met then the season will be closed.
