Hi
Your opinions,,,few times after seeing or hearing Turkey's on somebody's land I've knocked on doors for hopefully quick permission.
Next morning get out perfect spot, set up, calling for a while overlooking field.
But,,,here come cows or horses or sheep etc into the field.
Do you think these scare, prohibit Turkey's??? Even if livestock is say 100yrds away or passing through.
Do you get up and move from this perfect spot that you invested prime time calling in.
I get it , safety don't shoot farmers cows and you should have asked the farmer ahead of time to avoid but I'm wondering if you guys consider livestock has a deal breaker for Turkey's and move.
I'm new here maybe I put this in the wrong section if so sorry could you please move.

For years I was lucky enough to have access to an 18,000 acre "farm" in West Tennessee. A fair chunk of that acreage was devoted to cattle research. Didn't take long to realize the turkeys left as soon as they heard cows moving their way. As soon as you heard them, you might as well give up on that bird and head out looking for another. Now, often you could come back later in the day after the cattle moved out and kill the bird, but he was out of commission for awhile.
That said, I've seen turkey sharing a pasture with cattle in other areas. Honestly have no idea why the difference.

I have seen turkeys and cattle in the same pasture tons of times. Most of the neither give the other a second look. If the farmer was kind enough to give you permission, then I don't think I'd complain about his cattle lol! Just kidding. I know you're not complaining but really I've never had an issue with cattle spooking a bird. But I'm sure it can happen. As a farmer I know first hand that they can be a pain in the butt!

Depends on the area and the animals...
I think there is a mutual dislike between horses and turkeys... I have seen horses run turkeys off a pasture, and turkeys avoid areas with horses.
Cows get curious sometimes, and I have seen them run turkeys off... Yesterday, there were cattle in the pasture/meadow between the bird and myself. I watched cattle get curious with the hens, and they would simply run or fly off and come right back when a curious cow approached them... Then again, those cattle being there could very well be the reason that that tom stayed in the tree until 8:30 am with hens right below him.
Last season, I had some cows come in to check out my calling, and the turkeys followed. Although in good range, I never had a shot due to the cattle. One of the toms had some real attitude towards the cattle and rushed one of the cows, at which time everything started running everywhere.
However, one good sign that turkeys are around is that they will kick over old cow turds to look for bugs and seeds. Freshly kicked over cow turds means that turkeys were recently there (peacocks will do this as well).
Bottom line my impression is, if the cattle have been in an area a long time they probably do not effect the turkeys too much. I think turkeys will avoid horses... I have no idea on sheep... I would guess that goats would not tolerate turkeys very well and would run them out.
Did I do that?
Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

The only issue I've ever had was calves messing with my dekes. They love to head butt them.

I was deer hunting years ago and out in the middle of a pasture I climbed into an oak tree. About twenty minutes later I had the entire herd of cows surrounding the tree and looking up at me. Natural setting? No way!

Cows curiosity can definitely be a problem.
