Modifying Primos Freak

Has anyone ever removed the original crystal surface on a Primos Freak, and replaced it with a slate or ceramic surface. Just curious if anyone has done this, to have a surface that requires less conditioning, and leaves a little less surface material on the striker.

If worried about the surface residue, wipe it off with a clean dry paper towel or your shirt. That's what I do to get rid of surface residue to keep from plugging my striker tips.

To clean off the residue, you can carry an old tooth brush with you. It will clean all the residue out of the scratches on a glass call without smoothing or slickening it up any.
