Good morning too all!

After many hours of reading I have decided to join the 20ga club. I purchased a lightly used 870 youth with the plan of building a dedicated turkey rig. So I purchased a Carlsons p/n#10302 extended .575 choke, a b-square mount lt mount and I had a Bushnell trs-25 laying around. Ok so locally I have plenty of lead load options to choose from. I will be polishing the barrel this weekend which a have done 5-6 other 870s for myself and friends. I hunt ridge birds where the average shot is 25yds but Ive always limited myself to 40yds with 870 12ga using lead but Ive never had to shoot at that distance, 35 yds at the most. The season opens May 1st. Not looking for huge numbers in paper just looking for a good confident hunting setup with the choke I have for this season. Any help is very much appreciated!

If lead , with that set up, I would go buy two boxes of Federal Flite Control #6s and shoot for center and hunt thereafter. I  have that option and it is very adequate for close shooting. Be aware that 20 gauge patterns go from beauty queens to hags in a few yards , especially from 30 to 40 .

If you are into #5 shot I would get the same shell in #5 and next Winchester #5 .

federal 1 5/16 ounce number 5 and 6 lead, pfc258f6 or the same shell in 5 lead shoots good in my 21 inch remington 20 gauge. with the super full remington choke. Its good to 35 yards. These shells have the flitecontrol wad.    cluck

Thank you everyone for your responses. Would it be worth trying the Fed thug 5s? or Win double x? I will be happy with a confident 35 yard lead load for this season.

Unless I want to drive 2 hours to Cabelas or Bass Pro, no there is not. I would rather order them online but with only 2 weeks left before the season I would rather go bet a few boxes of lead to pattern.
