Gobbler Call?

Anyone use a gobbler call?

Which one do you have?

How do you like it?

In what instance do you use it?

Just wondering if I should have one in my "toolbox".

I would say you don't really need it. It's ok if you want one , a hunter can get the same reaction from a gobbler with a good friction call, without making a gobble sound which could create a dangerous situation

I had a Primos that I wore out. Replaced it with a new one and it doesn't seem to like to work in the cold. I use it both spring and fall.

All of these sound all right to me.  If you are a duck hunter and can blow a duck call these calls will be far more easy to learn.  Simply do a loud feeding chuckle utilizing some back pressure.  If you are not a duck hunter, you might have some trouble figuring out how to make these types of calls work.

I actually had some old predator call that someone gave me that sounds better (using the same method as the above calls).  Hope I do not lose it, cause the writing came off and I have no idea who makes it...  But it does sound good (far better than the shaker type gobble calls).

You can also try putting a rubber band around your box call and shaking it...  You might get a decent gobble just doing that.

I've successfully used a Primos gobble tube on a regular basis for the past 8+ seasons and have been warned that this could be a dangerous thing to do since another hunter could be sneaking in, looking for a "real" gobbler and blast my decoy with me in the nearby background. While this certainly could happen, I've never been warned about using a grunt call or rattling antlers while bow hunting for deer on the ground where I dress in full camo just like I do during turkey season and, during the rut, use a buck decoy. What's the difference?

I find they attract hunters 100 to 1 over gobblers. I've only ever brought in jakes on them aswell

I have a couple of gobble shakers, a Primos and a Quaker Boy. I carry one or the other but very seldom use it. When I do it's only on private land never public.

Gobble on a mouth call or box  call, I have had them ignore me and I've had then turn around and run in to their deaths. I dont toss it around much but it can be a useful tool

I use a H.S. Strut in limited situations. Almost never on public land. I will use it to make a reluctant gobbler worry some about an interloper. I usually try to limit the number of sequences I use so a "hunter" will be less likely to pinpoint me. That and I feel more comfortable using one when I have a clear view of my surroundings...Be aware that you may sound like a gobbler to other hunters and use one with that at the forefront of your thinking...They have worked well for me...
