When is Winchester going to get with the program and make us some good 20 ga. Long Beard Turkey shells ?

:jackson: I sure hope he is right that is a heck of a good shell in a 12 ga. I hope they can make the 20 ga. even better than the 12. :OGturkeyhead:

I would personally feel under gunned if I used 20ga lead. I like the heavier than lead shot for a 20ga. I feel with the #7 I get a dense pattern. Seems like with #6 your pattern would not be very dense???

Easy solution, use heavy weight #7's in their loads with the resin lock technology they use in the current loads.... I bet it would be killer.

IEach to his own, but, I have been killing gobblers (Eastern & Merriams); with a 20ga and #4 Pb since 1978. Longest shot was my 2011 bird, 42 yards; and he was dead before his beak hit the ground. It's all about the capabilities of your individual gun, choke, and load.

Truth!  A #6 pb pellet from a 20 is as lethal as one from a 12.  A tom won't know the dif from 1 1/4 ounces of shot in a 3" 20 or a 2 3/4" 12...

Yes he will.  He will say Dang I did think that skinny barrel would kill me this dead out here. ;)

NYlogbeards

Winchester probably has an overstock of the Double X and waiting till they sell it all out to make the Longbeards in 20ga

I agree that I'd like to see what a HTL shot would do loaded in a long beard shell in both 12 and 20ga.

have taken quite a few birds with Federal lead 5's, and 6's over the years and have NEVER felt undergunned

I just can't get away from HW7's or hevi-7's. If it ain't broke don't fix it for me!

Isn't that what everybody said about lead when htl loads first hit the market?  Funny how the worm turns and everything comes fulls circle isn't it?  "We like lead but ooh look!-a new shotshell that patterns better and kills further.
!"  Now its, "I like htl but its sooo expensive and why do we need to kill birds so far out-ooh look!- a new lead load that patterns beautifully and is HALF the cost of htl and shoots 4's with a killing pattern waaay past 40 yards!"

I'm not arguing that a lead 6 from a 20 will not kill a bird. Sure it will. I was arguing on the premise of the pattern and density. I could be mistaken, but wouldn't you get a denser pattern with fed 7 or hevi 7 than a load of #6? Maybe I am wrong and if I am please tell me. How many pellets are in a 3" load of fed 7? hevi 7? lead 6?
