Mossberg 935 questions.

Hello all,

   I have a chance to trade for a Mossberg 935 in Mossy Oak Breakup Ininity. It has a 28" barrel, undertake turkey choke tube and an improved choke. It looks almost new. I was wondering what some opinions are about this gun and what chokes everyone is having luck with in these.

Great gun. IC .675 with Hevi 6s or 7s, JH with Hevi 6s, SSX with Hevi 7s are all very good hunting combos.

Excellent shotguns, a little heavy overall and muzzle heavy in particular but very reliable. They are not made to cycle 2.75" shells. Some will but you should not expect it. The triggers are normally good. New or used, I recommend that you "deep clean" the bore. The 835/935 guns benefit greatly from this procedure. Spending time with that barrel will pay dividends down the road. There are 2 chokes that stand out from the crowd with that gun, the Hevi-Shot choke and the SSX. They do well with both Hevi-13 and WLB shells.

I've got one with a 26" barrel and she has been a good gun. Best overall choke for me has been the IC .675 even with Nitro's 2 7/16 oz. loads. The cons I've found; she is heavy, kicks like a mule, and mine seems more corrosion prone than other guns I own. The Pros - cycles everything, reliable, patterns good, lots of aftermarket parts available and priced right. If I had it to over again, I'd buy one with 22" or 24" barrel, the longer 26" barrel I have did not improve my patterns enough to warrant the extra length.

I've had my 935 since 08. Mine is the turkey waterfowl combo with 24" & 28" barrels. It has been a great gun gun for me.I've killed gobblers with a IC .675, Kicks .680, and Stardot choke. All of those chokes have performed great with my personal favorite being the kicks 680 which seems to shoot any lead turkey loads very well. It has performed great with the 28" barrel and mod choke for duck and goose hunting. Clean the action and gas system with CLP and u won't have any issues. If your looking for a gun for just turkey hunting I would be looking for a 935 with a shorter barrel but the 28" would be fine if your looking for an all around gun. I don't sell choke tubes for a living but from my experience any turkey choke in the 670-680 range usually performs best. But some loads (magblends and Nitro's) seem to prefer chokes in the .690 range. Good luck and let us know what u decide

The deal fell through 

Probably going to be using the 870 again in 2016. Not a bad gun at all. I was just looking forward to a camo'd up 935 semi auto...

The only gripe I have with the 870 is the noisy forend and the long barrel (28"). To be honest I'm not sure what to make of the long vs short barrel discussions. It seems that a long barrel only gets in the way while not providing much if any advantage in patterning.

Primos jellyhead turkey choke. Believe it or not my 935 with that choke patterns any factory turkey shell exceptionally. Stay away from Remington nitros or the Winchesters in the gray box and you are OK.
