I've just started to turn a few pots for fun, and it is fun. My question: is there suppose to be a certain distance from the soundboard to the edge of the pot and does it effect the rollover of the call? Any help would be appreciated as it seems some of my calls sound alright and some not so good. I'm just not happy with the rollover, and thought maybe I don't have enough gap between the pot and soundboard.

keep it as tight as possible.  Your roll over could be your surface glueing land is too wide.  I try to keep my surface to land contact where the glue will be, at 1/8 inch.   Hope this helps.

I also try to keep my distance from the side as close as possible. I am closer than 1/8". You might try a different distance from top of soundboard to bottom of surface material.

Thanks Joe! At this point I'm trying everything. It's almost like golf once you think you have it figured out something else screws up. I have one that sounds really good and a bunch that are hollow sounding. I think maybe my pots are to deep. Anyways thanks for the help.

I run my pots 5/16 from the top of the pedistal to the bottom.  My air gap is .085.   Try that and see how it sounds.
