I have a 870 3" 21" barrel 12ga...

Had the camo synthetic stock on it...

I put a Knoxx adjustable pistol grip recoil reducing stock on it...because it was a steal...and because I broke my wrist years ago and holding a pistol grip for a long period of time is more comfortable for me...I don't care a ton about recoil reduction...nice but not needed..the adjustable stock is awesome..let's face it..sometimes we are sitting in odd ways...

Found out I couldn't use my head so put on Williams slugger fiber optic sights..

Good news...no recoil on my shoulder...comfortable to hold..very steady...

Bad news...the recoil goes straight into my cheek bone below my eye...

I've played with stock adjustments..

I found out to put the buttpad barely in the shoulder..much higher than usual...it helped...

But it still isn't fun to shoot...shot 2 rounds over 2 days for my turkeys and my cheek bone hurt for a week...

Anyone have the stock and have tips?

Would the "powerpak" help?  Looks like it has a little bit of a cheek comb and may help?

I love the stock functionality but I can't keep it if it's gunna blast me in the face...

Ive had the same just put a new pistol grip on my 870 first time i shot a turkey load in it. It split my cheek. I did some grinding on it so no more cutting me but it still kicks like a mule. I just said aint gone shoot it much more than at a turkey lol

God a grip cheek pad

Just got a knoxx for my 870. Been reading about the cheek slap issue, and supposedly it's all about form. Bad form creates the cheek slap, so they say. I can't comment as I haven't fired mine yet. However I did see the goda grip cheek pads in my local gun shop yesterday, and they look like the perfect solution if I do experience the cheek slap.

As you shoulder the shotgun as soon as you start, again  as soon as you start to feel the stock touch your face, that is all the pressure you need to place on the stock. If you place your face against the stock like you would a normal shotgun the best way to get a feel on what it will do,  go find yourself a brahma bull place your head roughly 8 inches above a rear hoof and have a good friend give him a jolt to the private parts with a cattle prod and thats about what that stock will do to your face. When you do it right it will take a lot of the recoil out, when you don't its just plain awful.

Some stocks just don't fit some people while they may fit others. A basic tenet  is remembering that it's bringing the stock to your cheek and not bringing you cheek to the stock. Many problems with stock are at the butt and not the comb. You may have to bring the butt much higher than you are accustomed to with a conventional stock. If you will add a Limbsaver pad to the butt of your stock and bring the stock to your cheek first (it may well be that only the toe of the butt is in your shoulder pocket) you may be much more comfortable shooting that stock.

I really like the ATI stocks much more than any other brand. They just fit me better. The AKITA adjustable stock is my favorite. www.atigunstocks.com

Fit is important for sure. The powerpak has helped a few friends with their fit issues.
