I had another successful NC season. I'm sad to see it end; however, my girlfriend couldn't be happier. In all honesty she was very understanding and supportive and helped me stay positive even though i wasn't having the best season. I harvested my first bird during the first week of the season. He was 2 year old and weighed 17 lbs. and 11 oz., had 11 inch beard, and .75 inch spurs. The next three weeks would include some hunts that were interrupted by farming activity, uncooperative toms that were henned up, and an unsuccessful 4 day hunt in Ohio. Upon returiing from Ohio i only had one day left to hunt in NC which ended up being the last day of the season. The birds were actually the most vocal at my lease that they had been all year. Had a bird gobbling till 8:30am but he walked on by at 120 yards gobbling the whole time but he just wasn't interested. I normally don't have much success in the afternoon but my girlfriend convinced me to hunt the afternoon and it sure paid off. Around 3:30pm a gobbler entered the field and started working his way to my setup. I thought he might continue working down the farm road out of range but he caught sight on my strategically placed hen decoy which i had put in the elevated crop row and he turned 90 degrees and was running parallel to where i was set up. He ended up being 17lbs, had a 10.25 inch beard, and sharp 1 inch and 1 2/16 spurs.
