This is my second spring turkey hunting. We have tried a lot of different calls with very little success. The public land birds we hunt have been almost completely non responsive to any call we've tried.
Given our lack of success I have been hesitant to spend much $$$ trying new calls. Yesterday, though, I picked up a WoodHaven Custom Calls Legend Series Slate. I practiced with it all last night. I was impressed with how effortless I could change tones, add rasp, etc.
We went out this morning and had turkeys chatting with us for hours! We had a lot coming in to check out my nice new slate. The only bad part was, we drew so many gobbles and angry hens that all the run and gun hunters made their way up to us too. Its bow season and we didn't get any to my comfortable bow range, but we could have taken our pick with a shotgun. I think we would have got them in bow range if the other hunters hadn't crashed our spot.
Either way, it was a blast to get so many responses all morning. So, I had to post my endorsement for WoodHaven.
