Locating in afternoon for hunt the next morning

What do you find works to best for roosting a bird the afternoon before you plan to hunt the next morning? Do you use locator calls or just sit and listen? If you do use locators what type and around what time do you use them? I am planning on trying to get back on a couple of birds that slipped away from me yesterday morning. Thanks
