With the twins at home, my wife needs a break from my son. So what better way to give her a break than by going scouting for turkey?

My son and I hit up a gamelands to try and hear some gobblers before dark. We didn't hear any but it was a great trip.

"STOP DAD I HEAR SUMTIN"

Learning about buck rubs.

"not so still, still hunting"

ON the way out his legs were a bit tired so he got a "Daddy Ride"

I had went out yesterday and heard nothing in the morning.

This morning I went out and the woods were alive.

I am in the process of trading my 243 for a youth 20 gag so my nephew can come out with a little more knockdown power. Just hope that the birds are going to stick around. I cant wait for the youth day.

I love taking my little guy in the outdoors. Even though he is only 2.5 its amazing what they can learn. I agree with some on here that much of the focus is on the actual harvest of the animal rather than learning. I feel they retain a heck of a lot more than you think.

When we first got out of the car he reached down and picked up an acorn and said, "Look Daddy, a acorn, deer loves these, this is what deer eat." I believe the last time he held an acorn and I told him about deer eating them was in September during grouse scouting trips.

I am big on getting kids involved in the outdoors but feel you will have a longer lasting interest if you take them out not only to kill something but to learn about woodsmanship and things of that nature. We saw about 12 deer, a grey squirrel, a pilated woodpecker, and a grouse. He got to learn what a wood pecker sounds like, and later on in the trip he heard it again and said, "Daddy I hear a woodpecker"

I cant wait to put up some success pictures with him in the future but for right now, him learning about the woods, and buck rubs, and deer trails is enough for me.

Nice work. The wife says we are raising rednecks because my 2 yr old can't tell you what noise a cow makes, but howls like a coyote and hoots like an owl.
