It just goes to show that being pleasant with folks sometimes brings big dividends. Good for you!
Mine is a similar story. Twenty years ago, I was building our cabin in the mountains of southern New Mexico and a couple of guys drove up and asked me if I allowed anybody to cross my land to hunt elk on the National Forest behind my place. I talked to them a while to see what kind of people they were and then gave them permission to camp on the property, use the cabin to get out of the weather, if needed,.... and access the forest.
They thanked me and were all excited about their hunt, and right before they were about to go, they mentioned they were from Texas and had property there. I asked if they had turkeys and they said,..."Sure, we got lots of Rio Grande turkeys. If you want to hunt them, come on down."
Well, to make a long story a bit shorter, we have been hunting their places in Texas for about twenty years now and have killed dozens of Rios in that time. And it is all because of a coincidental short conversation and a kind gesture to other hunters.
